READING BEHAVIORS
The Reading Behavior Guides are available in English and Spanish.
Click on your student's reading level below. Each link will give you access to a guide you can use to support your student while reading together at home.
Each guide below contains questions (prompts) you can use to support your student in 4 key areas of reading.
- Concepts of Print - These are the very foundational concepts of reading found at Level A and B that help students understand that letters make words and words make sentences that can tell a story. Once a student reaches a Level C book, students have mastered these concepts.
- Accuracy - Use these prompts if you notice that your student is having difficulty with decoding (sounding out the words) or is mispronouncing words.
- Fluency - Use these prompts to help students make their reading sound fluid and smooth. Proficiency in fluency helps to promote good comprehension.
- Comprehension - Use these prompts to help ensure that students understand what they have read and can remember key ideas and details.
